HAVE YOU HEARD... STRESS
Is one of the  biggest causes of ill-health in Britain today. Recent survey reports have  suggested that men in Britain are overworked with high levels of stress and depression and that many turn to alcohol in search of an instant remedy.
According to stress Expert Professor Cary Cooper, [professor of organisational psychology and health at Lancaster University] men are reluctant to seek help as they don’t want to be seen as “weak”.

“Men tend to go to the pub, blot it out and they don’t talk to anyone about their problems”.

Drinking, as a coping mechanism, can and often does lead to problems of its own.
Sleeping problems, aggressive outbursts and difficulty in the ‘bedroom’ have all been associated with men suffering work related stress

Stress related heart disease, immune system disease and mental ill health are apparently higher in men. Rates of illness in Women are lower, not because they are under any less pressure than men [they are actually thought to have double the pressure] but because women generally have better coping strategies. Hormonal differences may play a part too but Women are very likely to talk and share problems.

But what is stress?

In mankind’s dim and distant past our in-built ‘fight or flight’ responses ensured survival against our predators- presumably the brain worked it out quite easily? For instance;

Angry carnivorous dinosaur charging at you = Run for your life!
Man-sized mammal grazing unawares = Dinner + warm coat!
