THE HISTORY OF THE TRENCHCOAT

In the musical and film versions of Le Miserables-Javert one of the two main characters is often seen wearing a French Police Navy Blue Trenchcoat. In Science fiction the tenth doctor in the British TV series Doctor Who (played by David Tennant) wears a Brown Trench over his ‘geek –chic ‘ pin-stripe suit and in the U.S. hit series the X-Files, both Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are known for frequently wearing Trench coats. Also worn by most characters of the Matrix Trilogy belonging to the human faction-Blade in the Blade Trilogy, [he wears a unique Trenchcoat that is Red inside] and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles disguised themselves in Tan Trench coats when going around the Streets Of New York. In the Manga Trigun, Vash the Stampede wears a Red Trench coat while Legato Blue summers (one of the villains in the series) wears a White one
	NON- FICTION - Trench coats (or other long dark coats) are sometimes associated with Heavy Metal music and Fashion styles. In the U.S. there have been instances of Gangs adopting Trenchcoats as part of their identity-as a result some schools banned pupils from wearing them……….BUT…..
Of all the Heroic, Dark, Mysterious, Romantic and Comic associations with the coat throughout it’s long life this is surely the most bizarre—Trenchcoats are traditionally used by Streakers and Flashers who wear the coat in public until they “Streak” naked through a public area (often seen at large sporting events) or expose themselves “Flash” in an obscene act of exhibition.??!!
